Shades of colors
To describe shades of colors, we use đậm and nhạt.
- For a light shade of color, use
nhạt + color. - For a darker shade, use
đậm + color.

Grammar rules
- When using color as an adjective, we can omit màu for most colors.
- In Vietnamese, xanh can refer to either blue or green. Use the full versions above if you want to be more specific.
- Vietnamese adjectives appear after the noun. For example:
- cam also means orange (the fruit)

To ask the color of one subject, we can say:
- ... + (là) màu gì?: What color is ...?
- Màu của + ... + là gì?: What is ...'s color?
- ... + có màu gì?: What color does ... have?
