How to say thank you in Vietnamese
Cảm ơn is the most common and simple way to say “thank you” in Vietnamese. You can also use cám ơn.
While both words have the same meaning, their tones are slightly different. Cám has a high rising tone and cảm goes with a low one.
How to say thank you politely?
There are ways to show your gratitude politely.
Include personal pronouns
You can include the personal pronouns to say 'thank you' politely.
Adding the subject I will make it extra polite. However, you don't need it when speaking to people who are not much older than you.
I + cảm ơn + You
Include polite articles
To older people
Dạ and ạ are two common words you can add to the sentence to express your gratitude to an older person.
Dạ is added at the beginning of a sentence while ạ is at the end.
To younger people
You can use nhé or nha at the end of a sentence to say thank politely to a younger person or someone the same age.
Thank you very much
You can add nhiều, rất nhiều or nhiều lắm to express very much.
Formal ways to say Thank You In Vietnamese
If you're in a meeting or formal situations, you can say the following phrases:
- Trân trọng cảm ơn + personal pronoun: Thank your parners/ customers
Xin cảm ơn + personal pronoun: Show your sincere and polite appreciation.
Xin chân thành cám ơn: sincerely thank you.
