What is your favorite color? Learning color names in Vietnamese is a great way to describe things visually.
Let's take a quick look at all the colors in Vietnamese - màu sắc.
Basic colors in Vietnamese

Shades of colors
To describe shades of colors, we use đậm and nhạt.
- For a light shade of color, use nhạt + color.
- For a darker shade, use đậm + color.

Grammar rules
- When using color as an adjective, we can omit màu for most colors.
- In Vietnamese, xanh can refer to either blue or green. Use the full versions above if you want to be more specific.
- Vietnamese adjectives appear after the noun. For example:
- cam also means orange (the fruit)
What color is it?
To ask the color of one subject, we can say:
- ... + (là) màu gì?: What color is ...?
- Màu của + ... + là gì?: What is ...'s color?
- ... + có màu gì?: What color does ... have?And answer:
Subject + màu + [color].Example
QCái này là màu gì?
What color is this?
ANó màu đỏ.
It's red.

What color is that flower?
ANó màu vàng.
It's yellow.

QĐó là gì?
What is that?
AỒ nó là cây bút màu đen.
Oh it's a black pen.

Yêu thích means favorite in Vietnamese. So to ask someone's favorite color, we say:
