How to count 1 million in Vietnamese? Or 1 billion?

In the last lessons, we've learned that tens is mươi, hundreds is trăm and thousands is ngàn in Vietnamese.

In this lesson, we'll learn how to count big numbers from million to billion.

1 million to 1 billion

The Vietnamese word for million is Triệu and billion is Tỷ. To count them, we add triệu or tỷ at the end of the number.

Counting Rules

Like the previous lesson on counting thousands, we also break down the numbers so it gets easier.

We separate numbers into layers, 3 rows each in order from right to left.

Let's break it down: 123 456 789 = 123 million + 456 thousand + 789.

Read the number: Một trăm hai mươi ba triệu bốn trăm năm mươi sáu ngàn bảy trăm tám mươi chín.
